Terrific handbook by an expert dietitian

Elizabeth Ward is a rockstar dietitian--she is an expert in the area of feeding kids and families, and she knows her stuff. This book translates the government's latest recommendations into practical, easy-to-understand advice that works for the real world. And she's a pro at explaining the science of things like omega-3 fats and vitamin D and offering real-life applications and advice. Each chapter is broken up into lists, boxes, and bullet points so it's quick and easy to read. There are also great recipes in the back like Almost Lasagna and Peanut Butter Noodles with Carrots and Broccoli that are quick and very family-friendly. If you're looking for something that simplifies the often-confusing task of feeding your family a healthy diet, this is a perfect choice!

Clever way to make feeding your family easier

In My Plate for Moms, Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, helps moms translate the 2010 Dietary Guidelines, along with the new My Plate icon, into their daily lives. I like this because the Dietary Guidelines provide a wealth of information that few people ever truly understand and benefit from. Ward has found a way to bring all the research and tips to the daily task of feeding kids.

In the book she breaks down helpful information in an easy-to read format tackling subjects such as maintaining a healthy weight, portions, maximizing nutrition, physical activity and how to balance all foods and beverages. She ends the book with 50 family-friendly recipes including Chocolate Chili, Coconut Chicken tenders and Tilapia Tacos.

East to read, realistic advice and simple (and nutritious) recipes make this book a must-have for busy parents everywhere.

Great Guide to Help You Make Your Own Healthy Plate

Ward, a well-known dietitian, has done it again with a useful, practical, easy-to-digest book that explains MyPlate, the new icon that visually reflects current Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The book explains the basics of nutrition thoroughly, and breaks down MyPlate--the simplistic USDA icon that was designed to replace MyPyramid (the latest incarnation of the now defunct food guide pyramid)--into chapters that contain many practical tips to help consumers translate the icon into real world food and fitness actions. I love Ward's positive approach to nutrition, and this book would be a useful resource for those interested in understanding the basics of nutrition and how to apply those to their lives.

Great information for busy moms

My Plate for Moms is a must-have for busy moms who want their families to eat a healthful diet. Registered dietitian Liz Ward takes the new My Plate recommendations and explains them in an easy to understand way with practical advice and tips for making meals and snacks that appeal to the whole family. She looks at the big picture and addresses the need for families to be more active, look at the quality of the diet and manage portion sizes and calories. As a dietitian myself, I will recommend this book to fellow busy moms who are trying to feed their families a healthful and delicious diet.

Keeping it real

My Plate for Moms keeps things real and shows us how easy healthy eating can be. I love all of the breakfast and snack suggestions. They are simple, delicious and family friendly. The small changes Ward suggests makes healthier eating manageable. And, the recipes in the back are an added bonus. I now flip through My Plate while making my grocery list. It's so nice having new meals to make and snacks to pack for school lunches. Thanks for keeping it real.

Great book with great tasting healthy recipes

I love this book! I stumbled upon it unexpectedly at the library. I hope this author will write another book with just recipes. It clearly and easily shows how to prepare healthy meals that my kids will eat. I feel like all my kids want to eat is processed junk and this really bothers me. Thank you Ms. Ward for this book.
